About Arbuckle Coffee

Arbuckle Coffee Roasters

A Legacy of Innovation and Quality

Arbuckles’ Coffee has a storied history that began in the post-Civil War era of the 19th century. Founded by brothers John and Charles Arbuckle, the company revolutionized the coffee industry by introducing roasted coffee sold in one-pound packages. Before this innovation, coffee was sold green and had to be roasted at home, often leading to inconsistent results. The Arbuckle Brothers changed the game by providing consistently fine quality coffee, conveniently packaged for consumers.

A Favorite of the Old West

Arbuckles’ Coffee quickly became a household name across the United States, particularly in the Old West. The Arbuckles’ Ariosa Blend was so popular among cowboys that it became known as the "Original Cowboy Coffee." Infamous cow towns like Dodge City and Tombstone were among the many places where Arbuckles’ Coffee was a staple.

Revival and Modern Excellence

Despite the original company breaking up in the late 1930s, the Arbuckles’ legacy was revived in 1974 by Pat and Denney Willis. Frustrated with the inconsistent quality of coffee served in their restaurants, the Willises created their own coffee company. Their commitment to quality mirrored that of the Arbuckle Brothers, promising and delivering a consistently superior cup of coffee.

State-of-the-Art Roasting Facility

Today, Arbuckles’ Coffee operates a 7,000 sq. ft. facility in historic Tucson, Arizona. The company prides itself on its heritage and quality, resurrecting the Original Arbuckle Brothers Ariosa Blend—known as "The Coffee That Won the West." This blend is available in whole bean or ground form, packaged with a peppermint stick just as it was over a century ago.

Innovative Roasting Techniques

Arbuckles’ Coffee continues to innovate in the coffee roasting process. They utilize a small, hand-tended, state-of-the-art fluid bed air roaster, a method that John Arbuckle himself had envisioned. This roasting technique suspends the coffee beans in air, preventing scorching and preserving the beans' lighter oils and sugars. Additionally, Arbuckles’ uses air cooling instead of water cooling to maintain the coffee’s freshness and prevent staling.

Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

Arbuckles’ Coffee is dedicated to quality and sustainability. They were the first Certified Organic coffee roaster in Arizona and the first TransFair, Fair Trade coffee roaster in the state, ensuring farmers receive a fair and stable price for their crops. This commitment extends to their diverse offerings, including the best coffee, tea, and herbal drinks in the Southwest.
